Moving can be a stressful process

Purchasing a New Home

There are a myriad of reasons for the relocation of people to somewhere new. In a recent survey by Clyde and Shari Steiner, the reported top three reasons for moving were the desire for more space in a home, noisy neighborhoods, and a long work commute. Some other notable reasons for moving include occupational promotions, a bigger home, and escaping friends and relatives. Additional information included in the survey was the perceived greatest advantage to moving — the two primary ones were a change of lifestyle, as well as making new friends.

These conclusions are intriguing to read, but by no means scientifically sound. The sample population of people surveyed was skewed — 83% of those surveyed were women.  This in itself is notable, since pursuant to the National Association of Realtors, 18% of single women are homeowners, compared to 9% of men. Ultimately, house-buying trends could be shifting dramatically from the conventions of the past generation.
