How To Choose A Moving Company?
Today we will discuss a very important issue: How to choose the right moving company?
Here are a few points to think about when looking for such company:
- If you are moving within a state, make sure the moving company you are considering is licensed by that state’s Department of Transportation, Public Utilities Commission, or Bureau of Consumer Affairs. Also, check online for customer reviews of the company.
- Consider the advantage of using a local company. A local company will be more concerned about its reputation in your area, they know the area, and their traffic time to you will be much shorter so they are more likely to get to you on time.
- For a move that is more than a few boxes and a few pieces of furniture you must have an on- site estimate. A phone estimate can never be as accurate. All moving companies offer a free on- site estimate. You will need to secure 30–60 minutes for a meeting with the estimator. (Depending on the size of your move).
- Make sure to compare apples to apples. When requesting quotes from multiple moving companies, make sure to provide all estimators with the same information. Also, remember that every small detail can impact the pricing of your move, so try to provide your moving consultant with as much information about your upcoming move as possible. Provide your consultant with a comprehensive list of items you want to move, items youwould like to pack yourself, additional delivery or pickup addresses (if applicable,) and other relevant information.
- Don’t hesitate to ask questions! This is what your moving consultant is there for. Make sure you understand every charge that is included in your estimate.
- A proper estimate is the first and very important indicator for a smooth and easy move. Check how experienced the estimator is, and what is his position in the company. Accurately estimating a large moving job is not easy and you want to make sure that: A. Your estimator is experienced enough B. He is not going to a different company tomorrow and will not be accountable to his estimate. C. He has the power within his own company to take care of his client in case of issues or problems.
- Don’t automatically assume that the lowest offer is the best one. Always compare all the details included in your estimates and consider the “big picture” before you make your decision. Beware of companies that use bait & switch techniques: If one mover gives you a dramatically lower estimate than other companies, there’s a chance that figure will eventually double or even triple on move date!
- Ask your mover if they carry the necessary insurance coverage. Ask about worker compensation, personal injury and general liability policies. If you have doubts, ask to see “proof of insurance” in the form of an “Insurance Certificate” issued by their insurance carrier.
